EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR)
Sets EU-wide rules for recyclable design, recycled content, reuse targets and labelling for all packaging.
Regulation (EU) 2025/40 entered into force on 11 February 2025 and has applied across the EU since 12 August 2026. Many requirements phase in later, including recyclability grades, recycled content minimums for plastic packaging and deposit return systems for most single-use drink bottles by 2029. It applies directly in every member state.
